In a new paper, I examine the contemporary debate around climate science that we see in public. Mainstream climate science offers a strong set of conclusions: climate is changing; human activities are the leading cause of recent changes; the future climate will strongly depend on the extent of greenhouse gas emissions; and dangerous change is right around the corner if greenhouse gas emissions are not reduced. This paper examines some of the common objections to that narrative and provides context for what is known about the current state of the climate and what remains to be discovered.
